It’s easy to get caught up in life and forget that we are surrounded by some beautiful landscape right in our backyard. Cue a quick getaway to Roche Harbor on the gorgeous San Juan Island. After a quick ferry ride from Anacortes, we arrived in Friday Harbor. Adorable small-town shops and cafes greet you as you arrive in port. We decided to enjoy lunch at Downriggers and wow, it did not disappoint. With a beautiful view, crafty cocktails and delicious food, this is a spot you’ll want to check out!
It’s about a 20-minute drive to Roche Harbor and along the way, it’s an enjoyable countryside feel; you almost forget you’re on an island.
Roche Harbor Resort greets you with a beautiful sculpture garden and a tree-lined drive along the old lime kilns. The hotel itself is breathtakingly charming with brick paved streets overlooking the Roche Harbor Marina. Summer time is hopping here, with the quaint grocery keeping San Juan passersby stocked up during their summer sails.
After getting checked into our room in the tower adjacent to the hotel (which had a great harbor view), we went for massages at the spa just downstairs. A relaxing environment with friendly staff and an ample list of services makes this a spa you won’t want to miss. Now it was time for one last treat – dinner at Duck Soup! This tiny, off the beaten path restaurant is well-known and loved by the locals, and I can definitely see why.
